Family Planning: A Need for Quality Care
The intrauterine device (IUD) is an important method of birth control notable for its safety, efficacy, and cost effectiveness. While much research attention has been paid to patient-level barriers to IUD access, less attention has been paid to systems-level barriers. Nevertheless, patients who seek to use this birth control method may face system-level barriers that prevent them from obtaining it. A systematic evaluation was used to investigate system-level barriers across three sites in order to make general recommendations for the provision of IUDs. This website provides a set of tools that clinical staff, health care providers, and administrators can use to identify and address system-level barriers to uptake of the IUD by patients in your clinic.
